Moscow is attracting immigrants from Central Asia with high wages and a fast naturalization process in its recruitment campaign, British intelligence experts say. Recruiters visit mosques and immigration centres, daily intelligence report says British Ministry of Defense about the war in Ukraine, published in London. In the immigration services, Tajik- and Uzbek-speaking officers regularly try to recruit migrants.
Upfront bonuses of the equivalent of €2,165 and wages of up to €3,770 per month were offered, according to the report. In addition, there is a proposal to obtain Russian citizenship within six months to one year - usually only possible after five years. According to British experts, recruitment efforts are likely to be somewhat successful.
“These recruits are likely to be sent to the front lines in Ukraine, where the casualty rate is very high.“, they added.
The effort, experts say, is part of the Russian Defense Ministry’s goal of recruiting 400,000 volunteers to fight an aggressive war against Ukraine.
“The authorities are trying to delay any open forced mobilization as long as possible in order to minimize domestic discontent.”- the report says.
The Ministry of Defense in London publishes daily information on the course of the war against Ukraine since the beginning of Russian aggression, citing intelligence data.
