Radishes are one of the earliest vegetables to appear on agricultural fairs and store shelves. To properly plant and grow radishes, you need to know some secrets or life hacks, thanks to which the harvest will be good.
The authors of the channel “My Dacha” talk about them.
Radish seeds are sown in the soil in spring, approximately in late March - mid-April.
As you know, the culture tolerates short frosts down to -5 ºС, and the seeds begin to germinate when the soil warms up to +5 ºС.
The soil for radish should be loose, the seeds are sown at a distance of 10-15 centimeters from each other and at a depth of 1.5-2.5 cm. The most comfortable temperature for germination will be 15-20 ºС.
Radishes love moisture, so make sure that the soil does not dry out - the humidity should be about 80%. To do this, you need to water daily, in the morning or in the evening; and in the case of a dry spring, twice a day. Also, the soil must be periodically loosened - this will retain moisture and fight weeds.
Radish grows quickly, about three to four weeks. Root crops ripen within 18-20 days after germination, which will take from three to 12 days to germinate. It all depends on the weather, care and variety of radish. Late-ripening varieties of time require 1-1.5 months to ripen.
Regarding life hacks, the optimal distance between plants is 4-5 cm. Before thinning, it is recommended to shed the bed excessively so that the soil is more plastic and you do not inadvertently damage the roots of the neighboring stairs. By the way, sprouts can not be thrown into compost, but eaten: put on salads and other dishes.
After thinning, it is helpful to gently loosen the soil to allow oxygen to reach the roots of the plant. If you did not add any baking powder during the preparation of the beds, you can now gently sprinkle the soil with sand. Water will carry it to the desired depth, providing looseness and lightness of the substrate - exactly what a radish needs.
Remember that the soil under the radish should always be slightly damp. Only in this case it will be possible to get juicy, crispy and not bitter root crops. Once every 3-4 days, it is advisable to water the radish. If you do this rarely in large doses, not only will the radish grow bitter and tough, it will begin to crack.
