Singer Demi Lovato preparing for his directorial debut. As reported by Variety, Lovato will lead a feature-length documentary called Child Star (tentative title), which will deconstruct the ups and downs of growing up in the spotlight through the lens of some of the world’s most famous former child stars, including Demi. The artist will co-direct along with Nikolai Marsh. The documentary will be streamed exclusively on Hulu (US VOD streaming service Auth.) in 2024. The streaming service is owned by Disney, where Demi Lovato began acting as a teenager in the Disney Channel original movie Camp Rock and the TV show Sonny With a Chance. The film promises interviews with a number of former child stars, although the names of the participants are still being kept under wraps.
Through personal conversations, authentic footage and archival footage from all involved, the film will move beyond the traditional narratives seen in op-eds and tabloids and explore the fluid nature of growing up in an increasingly connected and public world, according to a press release.
“There is no better film or theme for my directorial debut than this story that is close to my heart., Lovato said in a statement. – Our project sheds light on important messages about growing up in the eyes of the public, about learning to defend your boundaries and become active guardians of your destiny. I’m proud to be able to learn from people who have had unique childhood stardom experiences and will share their stories in our film.”
