Magdalena French is one of three Polish women to join WTA Rome and was the first to enter the fight. Her first rival was the local tennis player Matilda Paoletti, who put Biala Chervona in very difficult conditions.
The last few weeks have been very successful for Magdalena French, who, like Magda Lynette and Iga Swiatek, has joined WTA Rome. Previously, she performed in the same way in Caja Magica - the victory in Madrid in the main draw was no small feat for the 26-year-old athlete. However, unfortunately, she said goodbye to the tournament rather quickly after losing to Jessica Pegula.
The abandoned match between Magdalena French and Mathilde Paoletti at the WTA tournament in Rome.
This time the representative of our country also took part in the capital of Italy and it seemed that the clash would be in her favor. She won the first two games and generally looked like she was about to dominate the player from Italy. Nothing else bad, it was she who won the next 3 games, although she had many technical problems - for example with smashes. Although French then led 4:3, then she did not win any part of the first set and lost it 4:6.
The match between the Pole and the Italian was also paralyzed by rain. The start itself was delayed for an hour and a half, because it was supposed to start at 11:00 Polish time, and it happened only at 12:30. Fans gathered at Foro Italico patiently watched as tennis players struggled under umbrellas, but they were interrupted. First it happened at the end of the first set, and then we had a replay after 3 games of the second set.
War of nerves Magdalena French and Matilda Paoletti in the WTA Rome match
For every point scored, Frech had to put in a lot of effort, because she clearly lacked efficiency, especially on backhands. Paoletti held up well on the defensive, although her resistance was eventually broken. It’s been about an hour and a half since the beginning of the meeting, when Lodz took the lead in the second set 5:2. Unfortunately, she had problems with the finish, she lost as many as three set points. And only in the next approach she won and in the whole duel led to a draw 1:1.
The third batch started unsuccessfully for the 26-year-old athlete. The Italian decided that in the last part of the skirmish there was nothing to count on and he had to go on the attack. First, the tennis player from Italy used the break to 2:1, and then increased it to 3:1. The player from Lodz did not let go and led 5:4 in her favor. In this part of the match, she did not give her opponent many balls, although she was under a lot of pressure, which manifested itself in various mistakes in relatively simple situations. Fatigue too. In the end, however, the French won 7:5, and in the whole meeting 2:1. In the last action, she broke Paolini’s resistance when the Italian sent the ball into the car.
