Searchlight Pictures finally released the first full trailer Eva Longoriafilm directorial debut, hot fieryand it’s spicy. Ambulance star Jesse Garcia takes on the role of the real (probably) father of the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Richard Montañez who allegedly invented neon red powder while working as a janitor at the Frito-Lay factory in Rancho Cucamonga. With the help of his family and his billion-dollar idea, he rose from the bottom of the company to become a PepsiCo marketing star, inspirational speaker, and writer.
hot fiery may be named after the iconic snack, but the focus of the film and its marketing is definitely on the person behind it all. Montañez led a life of crime before starting a family, choosing instead to take a job cleaning cars at the Frito-Lay plant when he settled down. He once brought home some unflavored snacks and experimented to create something that would reflect his Mexican-American roots with his family, who helped him test the concoctions to determine which snack burned well. However, it’s not just about impressing your son or wife, it’s about taking your ideas to the top of the company he works for and paving the way for a better life through the power of one irresistible spicy treat.
While there are doubts about the veracity of Montañez’s story, that hardly makes it any less worthy of being used as the basis for an inspirational film. Flamin’ Hot Cheetos remain one of the most popular snack foods to ever grace the market, but Montañez’s story of how to get rich is still inspiring, about how to make the voice of the community heard and rise to the top of the ladder through innovation. Longoria thought it was worth sharing from the bottom of her heart. Critics seem to agree that the film was pulled from SXSW earlier this year as it currently has a 72% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with many praising the story.
