Hypertension is one of the most common diseases. It is estimated that 10 million adults are affected by this problem in Poland. The problem is that high blood pressure is not harmful, and the symptoms can be confusing. That is why the specialists of the servicepatient.gov.pl remind: “measure your blood pressure when you feel healthy and check it regularly.”

Redness on the neck. What symptoms can high blood pressure cause?

Redness on the neck and chest is one of the symptoms of high blood pressure. As experts emphasize, the signs of hypertension are nonspecific and may be associated with other diseases. Therefore, measure your blood pressure and see a doctor if you notice redness. But the list of symptoms that may indicate hypertension is longer. This:

  • headaches, dizziness,

  • sleep problems, sometimes insomnia,

  • feeling tired, including fatigue during physical exertion,

  • heartbeat,

  • chest pressure,

  • dyspnea,

  • excessive sweating.

How to measure blood pressure correctly?

Measuring blood pressure is a simple activity that anyone can do at home with a drugstore-bought blood pressure monitor. However, in order for the result to be correct, several rules must be observed. Half an hour and a half before the measurement, do not drink coffee and do not smoke, rest 5 minutes before the measurement. Measure blood pressure in the morning, on an empty stomach, and before taking medication. Sit comfortably, relax your back and put the blood pressure monitor on your bare arm about 1.5 centimeters above the bend of your elbow. Place your hand on a table or bed - it should be at the level of your heart. Always measure blood pressure on the same arm.

Blood pressure measurements should be recorded and shown to the doctor during the visit. If you regularly measure your blood pressure and your blood pressure repeatedly exceeds 140/90 mmHg. please consult with your doctor.
