Visit to an ophthalmologist. How much does this specialist’s private service cost?

Must read

The average waiting time for an appointment with an ophthalmologist at the National Health Fund is more than 150 days, i.e. more than 5 months. Many people - in the face of such long queues - decide to use the private services of this specialist. How much do non-government benefits cost? Find out about prices for individual eye exams.

The main factor determining prices for private ophthalmology services is the location of the office or center. What does this mean in practice? In large metropolitan areas, we will pay more per visit than in smaller cities or towns. However, a higher cost of services is usually accompanied by a wider range of services offered. In Warsaw, Krakow, Gdańsk or Lublin you can get more specialized help than, for example, in Starachowice or Hrubieszow.

Price list of basic ophthalmological examinations

During a standard visit, the doctor conducts a conversation with the patient about the problems and ailments reported by him. He then performs some basic diagnostic activities, such as checking visual acuity using a special Snellen table (ophthalmology). For such consultation costs from 50 to 250 zł. Other diagnostic procedures usually require additional payment:

  • the cost of checking the visual field from 50 to 200 PLN,

  • eyeball pressure test (tonometry) - from PLN 30 to 300 (the price depends on the number of measurements taken and the instruments used),

  • Ultrasound of the eyeball - from PLN 200 to 350,

  • evaluation of the thickness of the cornea (pachymetry) – from PLN 50 to 200,

  • fundus examination – from PLN 60 to 200,

  • study of the filtration angle (gonioscopy) - from PLN 100 to 150,

  • biometrics – from PLN 50 to PLN 100,

  • diagnostic test for demodex eyelashes - from PLN 120 to 200,

  • diagnosis of dry eye syndrome – from PLN 150 to 200,

  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the macula - from PLN 150 to 350.

Ophthalmic examinations are often combined into different packages. The price of a “diagnostic kit” is usually somewhat lower (compared to the cost of individual tests purchased separately).and usually fluctuates between PLN 400-500 (much depends on the type and complexity of the procedures). Savings are usually between PLN 100 and 150.

How much does vision correction cost?

The price of corrective procedures is usually determined individually. First, the doctor must check if the patient is suitable for this type of procedure. The cost of these “operations” depends primarily on the type of “correctable” defect, as well as the complexity of the treatment process. However, in this case, significant costs must be taken into account. - several thousand zlotys. It should also be remembered that not all ophthalmological centers are engaged in the correction of visual defects. They are usually carried out by clinics in large cities such as Warsaw, Gdansk, Krakow, Poznań or Lublin.
