The EHNS awards are given after a thorough review of merit in the field of head and neck oncology. Recipients are people who have made a special contribution to the significant development of the Society. Since 2018, 12 outstanding head&neck specialists from all over the world have been recognized in this way. The transparency of this award deserves attention. This is an expression of gratitude from all the societies participating in the EHNS.

prof. Golusinsky received this honorary award from the current president of the European Head and Neck Society at this year’s congress of the society in Lisbon.

Professor Wojciech Golusinski was one of the founders of the European Head and Neck Society and has been its president for the last five years. He was elected to this position after a 4-year tenure as General Secretary and previously as an ENT Specialist. Presidential term of prof. The work of Golusinsky coincided with the difficult time of the pandemic, which, however, did not affect the decline in the scientific and organizational activity of the society he headed.

During this difficult time, we managed to create new areas of development, such as:

  • Use of artificial intelligence in the diagnosis and treatment of head tumors,
  • EU-Robot platform – training and popularization of minimally invasive methods in head and neck surgery, especially based on robotic surgery,
  • Educational online platform – equalizing educational opportunities for young doctors and scientists from all over Europe, lectures are presented here at the highest level, presenting, on the one hand, the canons of knowledge in the field of head and neck oncology, and, on the other hand, new technologies and trends in modern diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancer .

By changing the formula of the flagship European congresses and courses to an online version, it was possible to maintain a high content and organizational level thanks to the determination of the board. During the last term of office, the board headed by prof. Golusinsky established new contacts and cooperation, which continue to this day and are the basis for conducting new multicenter studies, creating joint scientific articles, as well as organizing new research projects and conferences, congresses and courses. , organized by representatives of various scientific societies that work closely together to improve the quality of medical services and the development of medicine.

During these five years, Professor Golusinski has succeeded in uniting the various European societies dealing with head and neck cancer. Currently, the main partners of EHNS are ESTRO, ESMO, CE-ORL, IAOO, IFHNOS, as well as many other national ENT communities, whose local activities are becoming more and more visible in the international arena.

EHNS - about the organization

At the beginning of 2006 in Brussels, the founding committee signed the official documents that made it possible to establish the European Head and Neck Society, i.e. the European Head and Neck Cancer Society.

The main objectives of the EHNS are to promote knowledge about all aspects of head and neck cancer. Supporting the highest standards of research, education, prevention, treatment and care for people with head and neck cancer. This international organization brings together physicians from many specialties who, in their daily practice, treat head and neck cancer, such as laryngologists, head and neck surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, oncosurgeons, plastic surgeons, radiotherapists, clinical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, representatives of medical professions. such as speech pathologists, physical therapists, oncology nurses, psychologists, nutritionists and social workers, as well as patient organizations that support patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer through every step of their care, from diagnosis to rehabilitation.

Every two years EHNS organizes the European Conference - European Congress of Head and Neck Oncology in major European cities. The Board shall ensure reasonable geographical rotation of the conference venue. Over the past few years, we have seen a dynamic increase in the number of participants representing various fields of medicine, who are actively involved in various educational forms of the European Conference.

EHNS is registered in Belgium under EU law. The EHNS is made up of national interdisciplinary scientific societies and individual members. Today EHNS brings together 27 European National Scientific Societies representing 31 countries and 2562 members from all over Europe and beyond.

EHNS has provided the essential foundation and implementation of a state-of-the-art head and neck cancer prevention program across Europe, the “Mind Campaign”, which organizes the European Head and Neck Cancer Prevention Week every year in September, drawing attention to the risks and changing the profile of patients suffering from head and neck cancer. neck neck.

EHNS sets the highest standard in the treatment of this group of cancers, offering treatment recommendations for head and neck cancers in highly peer-reviewed scientific journals.
