Katowice police officers are investigating the circumstances of a fatal accident that occurred on Witos Street. According to preliminary data, the driver of the Opel Astra hit a woman crossing a designated pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian died as a result of his injuries.
The traffic accident happened a few minutes after 7:00 am on Witos Street in Katowice. According to preliminary data, a 72-year-old Opel Astra driver hit a pedestrian at a crosswalk. A 73-year-old woman died in hospital as a result of her injuries. Employees of the Katowice traffic police, an investigative team consisting of a forensic expert and a fire brigade worked at the scene of the traffic accident.
Police photographs released by uniformed officers from Katowice show that the windows of the Opel were covered in frost. Now the police are investigating what effect this fact had on the accident.
Windows need to be washed
Taking this opportunity, the police remind that morning frosts and slippery surfaces lengthen the braking distance.
“Let’s make sure that the windows in our car are thoroughly defrosted. Unfortunately, it often happens that all windows freeze, and the front one is cleared of snow only in a small part. This situation, combined with bad weather conditions, can have tragic consequences. The driver of such a vehicle cannot see a pedestrian even in full light and has poor vision of other vehicles. He moves by touch, threatening all road users.
