Tunisia beat France but dropped out. Group D sensation

Must read

Tunisia beat France 1-0 in the third round of Group D of the World Cup in Qatar. Now the situation is clear.

The French team has already reached the 1/8 finals of the World Cup. Didier Deschamps’ men scored six points in their first two games, beating Australia 4-1 and Denmark 2-1. Tunisia, on the other hand, has only one point on its account, won against Denmark, and they still have a chance of reaching the playoffs, although for this they need to win against France and hope that Australia will stumble in a meeting with Denmark.

Tunisia national team (1-3-4-3): Damen – Gandry, Meria, Talbi – Kechrida, Skhiri, Laiduni, Maaluf – Slimane, Khazri, Ben Romdan. Coach: Jalel Kadri.

France national team (1-4-1-2-3): Mandanda – Fofana, Konate, Varan, Disasi – Chuameni, Guendouzi, Kamavinga – Veretut, Kolo Muani, Koman. Coach: Didier Deschamps.

The referee of the match was New Zealander Matthew Conger.

World Cup 2022. First half match between Tunisia and France

Didier Deschamps fielded a reserve squad in today’s match by checking m. Eduardo Camavinga – left back. The first minutes of the meeting were a classic exchange of blows between both teams, although we also saw a bad game. At the 8th minute of the match, the Tunisians performed a free kick, after which Gundry sent the ball into the net, but the referee recorded an offside position.

The Tunisians were looking for ways to break through the French defense and, although the score was 0-0 until the 15th minute, they attacked more often and retained possession of the ball. For the first time, Deschamps’ players did not seriously threaten the Damen goal until the 25th minute after a counter-attack that Kingsley Coman was unable to complete. Moments later, the referee showed the first yellow card. It was received by the Tunisian national team player Kehrida for sliding into the legs of an opponent.

Les Bleus were in no hurry to go into counterattacks and tried to carry out positional attacks, playing football from their own penalty area. Jalel Qadri’s men looked for a chance to attack from the flanks, but none of them were successful. The referee added two minutes of normal time to the first half, after which he sent the players of both teams to the locker rooms.

World Cup 2022. Second half of the meeting Tunisia-France

None of the coaches dared to make changes to the lineups. From the beginning of the second half, the Tunisians boldly went on the attack, although the French were not going to make it easy for themselves. However, the players from Africa were the first to strike. In the 58th minute, Khazri received the ball in the middle of the field and, after a rally, struck with his left foot into the bottom corner of the goal, bringing the score to 1:0. Immediately after this goal, the shooter was replaced by Jebali.

Didier Deschamps reacted to what was happening on the field and brought on the field Mbappe, Rabiot and Salibe instead of Coman, Varane and Veretout. The game dragged on a little, and we again saw foul play. Djebali fell on the field after a collision with an opponent, and the French defenders threatened the opponent with tackles several times. Antoine Griezmann replaced Ibrahim Konate in the 73rd minute. Changes have also taken place in Tunisia. Ben Romdhan went to the bench, and Chaaleli went the other way. After several minutes of fruitless play by the French, the coach removed Guendouzi from the field, letting Dembele pass.

The substitutes warmed up the game of the tricolors, which, interestingly, managed to hit the target only in the 82nd minute. The most serious situation for the French was in the 90th minute, when Colo Muani delivered a powerful shot, after which the goalkeeper parried the ball for a corner. The referee added eight minutes to the second half. Les Bleus were looking for a way to the goal until the very end, taking set pieces and shooting at the opponent’s goal, and only in the last added minute they managed to achieve their goal. The Tunisian goalkeeper lost to Antoine Griezmann. However, VAR pushed the goal away and Tunisia won the match 1-0.
