The new Civic Type R is, without a doubt, a work of engineering. Aerodynamic and powerful body design

All technical features of the new Civic Type R have been refined to enhance driving pleasure through improved aerodynamics and increased downforce.

The Civic Type R is 7mm lower and 880mm wider than the Civic e:HEV, and 33mm lower and 13mm wider than the previous generation Civic Type R. The low, muscular appearance is achieved by powerfully shaped wheel arches that flare over new, outward-facing, 19-inch, lightweight and very stiff wheels painted in matt black. The unique Type R wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 265/30 ZR/19 compound tires.

The end result consisted of many small changes and modifications. For example - in the front fenders behind the wheel there is a large air duct that allows you to reduce pressure in the wheel arch. The air flow from these ducts is directed along the vehicle along the side sills and then from the rear wheel arch through small spoilers located at the ends of the sills.

To help manage the temperature of the 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo engine, air intakes have been added to the aluminum hood and front fascia to optimize airflow through the engine bay and provide downforce to the front axle.

At the rear, a new diffuser combined with a spoiler increases downforce on the rear axle and helps reduce drag. Mounted on new cast aluminum brackets, the rear spoiler is wider and lower than on the previous generation model, helping to emphasize the new roofline.

All functional parts of the car are finished in high-gloss black. This includes a front air intake, a rear diffuser and a central rear spoiler, highlighting the car’s commitment to high performance. The range of paint colors available is inspired by the model’s racing pedigree and includes the iconic Championship White, as well as Rallye Red and Racing Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl and Sonic Gray Pearl.

Driver-focused cab

The interior of the new Civic Type R is designed to inspire the thrill of driving before it even starts, from the moment the driver opens the door. The driving position is 8mm lower compared to the previous Civic Type R and the latest 11th generation Civic Civic. The lightweight, sporty front ends have been redesigned.

Despite its low position, visibility from the driver’s seat is better than that of the previous Type R. The front corners of the hood are clearly visible, and blind spots around the base of the A-pillars and exterior mirrors have been minimized, helping the driver both on and off the track. traffic jams.

Like all previous generations, the new Type R also has a unique nameplate. It is placed on the dashboard rather than on the center console as in previous models.

Most Powerful VTEC Turbo Ever

The new Civic Type R is powered by an upgraded 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC four-cylinder engine that incorporates several motorsport-derived technologies.

The designers have redesigned the turbocharger to improve its efficiency. By reducing the number of turbine blades and optimizing their shape and diameter, it was possible to reduce the internal inertia of the unit. The redesigned body is smaller and more compact than the previous generation model. This also contributes to increased turbocharger power and responsiveness.

The new Type R has improved temperature control and more efficient air cooling thanks to a more efficient heatsink. This ensures consistent optimal performance in dynamic driving. The air intakes also contributed to this, which in total increased by 48 percent. The increased cross-section of the air intake system made it possible to improve the flow rate by 10 percent.

Overall, changes to the engine resulted in improved high-end performance and low-end fuel economy, as well as class-leading power-to-weight ratios. The engine produces 329 hp. at 6500 rpm, while the maximum torque of 420 Nm is available from 2600 rpm and remains at this level up to 4500 rpm, while the engine spins freely up to 7000 rpm. Thanks to this, the Civic Type R can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and then reach a top speed of 275 km/h.

This performance is aided by an upgraded six-speed manual transmission that uses a number of new components designed specifically for the latest generation Civic Type R to improve smoothness and ease of shifting components. New flywheel by 18 percent. lighter than previous generations, reducing its inertia by 25%.

Lightweight and rigid chassis

A wheelbase that is 37mm longer than the previous Type R and the base car’s multi-link rear suspension, combined with a significantly longer rear wheelbase, provide improved cornering stability over its predecessor. These solutions have been perfected by repeatedly testing changes made on German motorways as well as on the Nürburgring.

The twin-post front suspension, which has been configured to minimize the effect of torque on the steering system, has been modified with new lower wishbones with optimized shape and stiffness.

Adaptive dampers remained from the previous generation, but changed the logic of the transverse and longitudinal control.

Braking is handled by an upgraded Brembo braking system with improved brake lines and a new mechanical master cylinder. They provide better temperature control while providing better handling and consistent braking power. The two-piece floating brake discs have been carried over from the previous generation for durability and high braking performance.
