“Historic moment for me”: Yulia Sanina on her conversation with King Charles

On May 9, the first semi-final of Eurovision 2023 will take place at the Grand Arena in Liverpool. Recall that Ukraine will be represented by the TVORCHI group. One of the leading international competition was a Ukrainian, Julia Sanina, frontwoman of The Hardkiss. The singer arrived in Liverpool two Sundays before the competition and has already met the King and Queen of Great Britain.

“I thought that the preparation for the main international music competition would be nervous and tense, but I was wrong, - Yulia said on a live broadcast in “Breakfast with 1 + 1”. - There is a pleasant friendly atmosphere in Liverpool, everything goes calmly and without fuss.

A week before the start there were various rehearsals and runs. There was also a rehearsal of the grand final, everything happens in advance, so we are ready. Everyone is very surprised by my English pronunciation, because it sounds natural. I’ve been working on this for several months.”.

The host of Eurovision 2023 also spoke about communication with King Charles. As the artist noted, on the eve of this meeting, there were no additional meetings where the protocol rules were told.

“Very nice people Yulia said. - King Charles asked me how is the atmosphere here? I thanked for the feeling that this is really Ukrainian Eurovision, despite the fact that it takes place here in Liverpool. They are very hospitable and treat us with open hearts. Ukraine is in the first place here. I also told him a huge thank you from the Ukrainians for the support we receive from the UK, from his family, from himself. We even talked about twinning between Odessa and Liverpool libraries. For me, this is a historic moment. I never thought in my life that I would ever stand and talk to the king like that.”.
