Ukrainian cartoon “Mavka. Forest Song” broke the national film distribution record. It became the highest-grossing product in the history of Russian cinema. For three weeks of hire, the tape collected more than 80 million hryvnias. She bypassed the popular films “Mad Wedding”, “Kidnapped Princess” and “Zakhar Berkut”.
“Only for three weekends in the Ukrainian box office, 642,671 tickets were sold for the cartoon, and the box office amounted to UAH 81,848,415”- reported on the website of the State Film Agency of Ukraine.
The cartoon was created based on the drama extravaganza by Lesya Ukrainka “Forest Song”. Work on it has been going on since 2015. The directors of “Mavka” were Alexander Ruban and Oleg Malamuzh. Screenwriter - Yaroslav Voytseshek. At the beginning of March 2023, the cartoon was released to the public.
The main characters were voiced by star Ukrainian artists: Mavka - actress Natalya Denisenko, Lukasha - singer Artem Pivovarov, the main thief of the film Kilin - Elena Kravets, and the mermaid Vodyanitsa - frontwoman of The Hardkiss group Yulia Sanina. Also in the film, Nina Matvinko, Sergey Pritul, Natalya Sumskaya are heard.
A wide distribution of the cartoon is planned in France; in total, the Ukrainian “Mavka” will be seen in more than 80 countries of the world.
