Former Real Madrid and Yugoslav national team player Predrag Spasic is forced to earn a living working as a loader for a Serbian company.
The 57-year-old ex-collector told the Serbian edition of Sport klub about his difficult life story.
“I invested part of the funds in a company that collapsed due to military operations in Serbia, as a result of which I lost almost all my savings - cites the source of the word Predrag Spasic. - After that, I fell into a deep depression, which I struggled with for ten years. And only with the help of my family, my brother Bojan and the doctor, who helped me a lot, I managed to stabilize my condition.
Now I work in a company that imports goods from Turkey, I am here as an auxiliary worker, a loader, distributing things further throughout Serbia, I earn 400 euros a month. Based on my life experience, I can advise young footballers to take care of their financial well-being in advance, before they finish their career, so as not to end up in the situation that I found myself in. But I can say that now I am an absolutely normal person, and that today I see and evaluate some things differently.“.
Note that Spasic is a graduate of the Radnicki club from the town of Kragujevac. Having moved from there to the camp of the Serbian football giant, Partizan, Predrag, who played in the position of a central defender, was able to prove himself and attracted the attention of Real Madrid scouts, moving to the Spanish capital in 1990. True, the Serb failed to stay in the “creamy” squad - in the 1990/1991 season he played 22 matches for Madrid. One of them, at the Camp Nou against Barcelona, Spasic remembered for a long time - in that match he scored an own goal, and the Blau Granas won the El Clasico (2: 1).
“This own goal is the only thing I would like to change in my career Spasic admits. - The scariest thing for me was when the Barcelona fans chanted my name in gratitude. As a result, this goal is an unpleasant trail for me throughout my life. After that match, I lost my place in the Real Madrid squad, because I was suspected of surrendering the game“.

As a result, Predrag moved from Real Madrid to Osasuna, where he played almost a hundred matches in three years, and ended his career in 1997 in his native Stronitsy. In addition to performances at the club level, Spasic also defended the colors of the Yugoslav national team (31 matches, 1 goal), with which, in particular, he reached the quarterfinals of the 1990 World Cup.
