The Ukrainian authorities should clearly explain the reasons why the Ukrainian betting company Parimatch fell under sanctions, because it looks like a very bad precedent when a large business that has been built for almost 30 years is closed with one decision without any explanation. This was stated Boris Davydenko, editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian Forbes.

Recall that on March 10, 2023, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky introduced the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions on 120 individuals and 280 legal entities. Among them, to the surprise of many people, was the largest Ukrainian betting company Parimatch.
“Most of them are of Russian origin or work in Russia, and all of them are related to the gambling business. What does the Ukrainian company Parimatch, founded in Kyiv in 1994, do on this list?“, - says Davidenko.
According to him, several participants in the gambling market explain this decision by the fact that Parimatch made a lot of efforts to prevent the Russian bookmaker 1xBet from entering the Ukrainian market, which is why the latter took revenge by getting Parimatch included in the NSDC sanctions list.
“Parimatch got into the sanctions list not without the help of competitors and enemies. In 2022, the Russian betting company 1xBet tried to enter the Ukrainian market. And allegedly Parimatch made a lot of efforts to prevent her from doing this. And already 1xBet was able to find ways to harm Parimatch“, - said the editor-in-chief of Forbes.
Parimatch has suspended its activities. “For a long time, perhaps forever“, - says Davidenko.
According to him, getting a Ukrainian company on the sanctions list is a very bad precedent.
“It turns out that with one stroke of the pen, you can close a business that has been built for almost 30 years. And the authorities should specifically explain the reasons why Parimatch is on this list.”he stressed, adding that “all entrepreneurs are at risk, since any business can be banned in a few days, any company can be thrown out of Ukraine.”
It should be noted that Parimatch is the largest taxpayer among the gambling business in Ukraine: in 2022, the company paid UAH 334 million in taxes and license fees, in 2023 - UAH 485 million. Since the beginning of the war, Parimatch has transferred another UAH 545 million to charitable foundations and assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
