Ukrainian male students cannot now go abroad, since such a decision has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
This was stated in a commentary by RBC-Ukraine by a representative of the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Andrey Demchenko.
He stressed that during martial law in Ukraine, there are restrictions on the departure of men aged 18 to 60 years and there are clearly defined exceptions for whom this does not apply. Students are not included in the list of exceptions.
According to Demchenko, in March, the military leadership decided to allow those students who studied before February 24 to continue their studies abroad. But there has been a lot of speculation about the topic lately — between the start of the full-scale war and August, more than 600 forged documents were found at the border from people trying to leave Ukraine.
“It was in order to avoid any speculation that the top military leadership made another decision on September 14 - to refuse to cross the border for this category of citizens. Changes in the procedure for allowing students to cross the border can only occur when this category is normalized. Now the government decree prohibits all students from crossing the border, and we are complying with it,” Demchenko emphasized.
The speaker also added that if any ministry applies to the Cabinet of Ministers with an initiative to allow students to travel abroad and it is approved, the border guards will implement the innovations.
“If there are changes regarding students, we will implement them. But there must be safeguards, because many people speculate on this topic. We see this on the example of forged documents, and, in fact, we also have information that fake educational institutions operate abroad, which provide an invitation to Ukrainians to become students there, and subsequently 40-50-year-old “students” go to study in Europe with such documents”, - summed up Demchenko.
