But that’s all in the past. A Norwegian who earns a living by farming and working as a firefighter does not want to give up the sport completely. From next season, he will compete in long-distance cross-country skiing in the Ski Classics cycle. Tafte became a member of the professional Team Kaffebryggeriet from Lillehammer, which has been participating in the Ski Classics for four seasons.

Cross-country skiing is not a new discipline for the Norwegian, as he has been doing it regularly for many years and has participated in many long distance runs, incl. in the 90-kilometer Vasa race, where in 2007 he took 43rd place among several thousand participants. The best Pole in Vasa Race history was Jozef Luszczek (67), who in 1987 finished 22nd. Among women, Justyna Kowalczyk (39), who won the Vasa Race in 2015, became the best Polish woman.
“I am only 46 years old, and this is the best age for long-distance running,” said the Norwegian.

In 2013, Tafte was in a serious accident. Working on his farm near the town of Horten, chopping wood, he hit himself on the leg with an ax.
I swung, the moment of staring came, I did not hold the ax and hit with my thumb. I was wearing shoes, but the blow was so strong that it did not help me. At first I thought I just hit my foot hard. But when blood began to drip from my left boot, I realized that this was not a joke. It turned out that part of my foot was torn off from the rest, the sight was terrible, ”Taffeta wrote on social networks then.
Fortunately, the injury did not put an end to the athlete’s career, because after this accident he performed at two more Olympics.
