China has become the United States’ biggest rival in the space race. The Celestial Empire is dynamically developing its own orbital station and, like the Americans, wants to send astronauts to the moon. Which country will do it first?
The space race between the USSR and the US in the 1960s and 1970s is legendary, but now Russia is far behind China. Today, the Celestial Empire opposes the United States in the struggle for further achievements in Earth’s orbit and beyond. The target of both countries is currently the Moon.
China vs. USA - who will be the first to land on the moon?
Chinese authorities recently announced that a manned mission to the surface of the Silver Globe would take place “by 2030.” This is a rather long time perspective, especially in the fight against the United States, which can potentially bring a person to the surface of the Earth’s natural satellite a little earlier.
The United States is now in a comfortable leadership position. Significant funds and resources, as well as well-established supply chains, make it easier for the US agency to achieve the next steps. NASA’s latest estimate is that American astronauts could land on the Silver Globe as early as 2025 as part of the Artemis program. However, problems with the SLS missile system could delay this.
Heavenly Palace - the key of the Chinese station in the space race
However, the Chinese have a couple of aces up their sleeve. One of them is the national space station - Sky Palace. The US should crowd with others at the ISS base. Interestingly, it was precisely the doubts on the part of the United States that led to the exclusion of the PRC from the group of countries cooperating within the framework of the international station.
Chinese Manned Space Agency Deputy Director Lin Xiqiang says the current three-module station is “sufficient for China’s current purposes,” though there are plans to launch a fourth Tiangong module.
Recently, we wrote in Wprost.pl about the change in the composition of the Heavenly Palace. At the end of May, the country announced the successful launch of Shenzhou-16. A manned flight aboard the Long March 2F rocket brought three new astronauts to the station. They replaced the crew that had remained in orbit since the launch of the Shenzhou-15 mission last November.
