The Polish national team for the first time in history takes part in the United Cup of Australia. Iga Sviontek could get another trophy in her career. We know who the White-Reds will face in the semi-finals.
Iga Swiatek performs well in the United Cup, where together with the Polish team she has already reached the semi-finals of the competition. Together with eg. Hubert Hurkacz brilliantly launched the newly created tournament format, which consists of competing women and men in one competition. PZT sent one of the strongest teams to Australia, which they proved a few days after arriving at the tournament.
United Cup. Poland conquers a new format
The group stage of the United Cup was exceptionally easy for the Poles. Our representatives beat Kazakhstan with a score of 4:1, and points in favor of Poland were scored by: Iga Swiatek, Hubert Gurkacz and Magda Lynette. Only Daniel Michalsky failed. Moreover, the Poles also won the mixed doubles created by the duo Iga Swiatek-Hubert Gurkacz.
It was much more difficult in the duel with Switzerland, although the white-reds also emerged victorious, this time 3:2. Thanks to this, our representatives left the group and met with Italy. They also won this match with a score of 3:2, and the decisive point for Poland was scored by the previously mentioned duet in the mixed doubles.
Who will Poland face in the semi-finals of the United Cup?
The victory over Italy meant that Poland advanced to the semi-finals. Iga Sviontek and company will take on the USA, where tennis players like Madison Keys, Jessica Pegula, Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz play.
In the previous round, the Americans won against the British team. The fight against the United States will take place on January 6 and 7 at the Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney. The winner will advance to the final on January 8th.
