In Ukraine, there may be more blackouts this heating season than in the past. After all, there is no need to talk about a significant restoration of the capacities damaged due to Russian attacks. He told Focus about this in a commentary expert at the Institute of Energy Strategies Yuri Korolchuk.
According to him, when last year the invaders hit facilities responsible for the transmission of electricity, near hydroelectric power stations and thermal power plants, it was clear that it was impossible to completely repair them over the summer.
And when we talk about operational work, this does not mean that the power of the substation has been completely restored.
“If a substation transmits a million kW, it was quickly restored by 70%; in winter it will not transmit more than half of the power, and the likelihood of accidents will increase. I believe that this season there will be more shutdowns. DTEK of the Dnepropetrovsk region has already said that we need to prepare for outages of 4-8 hours, I think this is an optimistic forecast, and we can safely prepare for outages of up to 10 hours.- emphasizes Korolchuk.
According to the expert, the most problematic regions are Kiev, Kharkov, Lviv, Khmelnytsky and Odessa regions. However, despite this, there will be blackouts everywhere.
“The grid is connected. They will be based on the throughput capacity of substations. There is now information about upcoming shutdown schedules. How long depends on how cold the winter will be.”– he explained.
It should be noted that the other day, Advisor to the Minister of Energy Lana Zerkal said that Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPPs) are 70% ready for winter, power grids are 98% ready, and thermal power plants are 30% ready.
We were talking about planned work. At the same time, the generating equipment, according to Zerkal, has only been restored by one third.
However, such a statement by Zerkal was refuted by the Ministry of Energy, emphasizing that the information it provided about the state of the repair campaign at energy facilities does not correspond to reality.
The department provided the following information:
24 power units of thermal stations - 62% of the total;
32 hydroelectric units - 68% of the total capacity of hydroelectric power stations;
5 nuclear units out of 9 have been completed, 4 are in the process of repair;
70% of thermal power plants have been repaired, 30% are in the process of repair.
As FACTS wrote, on September 9, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky held a new headquarters for the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. It was dedicated to the protection of energy and Odessa ports.
