The mayor of Paris, Hidalgo, has been seen as sympathizing with pro-Kremlin separatists: what are we talking about?

Must read

The mayor of the French capital, Anne Hidalgo, who previously awarded the title of honorary citizen of Paris to the former Kremlin prisoner, Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov, became interested in the affairs of the South Caucasus. She travels to Karabakh and meets with pro-Kremlin proxies, in particular the leader of the Armenian separatist enclave Harutyunyan. She also sends letters to the French Foreign Ministry calling for recognition of Artsakh. Censor writes about this.

According to the publication, Hidalgo calls on the French authorities to build an airport there and demands that President Macron submit a resolution on international military intervention in Karabakh to the UN Security Council for discussion.

“Hidalgo’s frenetic activity in the region, located more than 4,500 km from Paris - the area of her direct responsibility, is reminiscent of similar actions by Moscow Mayor Luzhkov in Crimea. The mayor of Russia’s capital often traveled to the peninsula, met with local separatists, financed them and made statements in support of annexation. In 2002, Mayor Luzhkov stated: “Crimea is a special region of Russia!” – reminds Censor.

20 years later, history repeated itself. After a meeting with the “president” of the separatist enclave Harutyunyan Hidalgo said: “Paris appealed to the French government with a request to recognize the independence of the Republic of Artsakh.” While Hidalgo is showing interest in Karabakh, French media and even Wikipedia are commenting on her as mayor.

The mayor of the V arrondissement of Paris, Berthoud, drew attention to the gap between her statements and reality: “In fact, no one is involved in the city. Paris is disgusting, purchasing power is falling, families are leaving the capital.”

Wikipedia writes: “#SaccageParis is a movement aimed at condemning the degradation of heritage, culture and society that Paris has experienced under the leadership of Anne Hidalgo… A year after the movement began, #SaccageParis was associated with almost 3 million messages published on Twitter; The 3.5 million mark was passed at the end of May 2022.”.

Le Figaro has written more than once about her ineffectiveness as mayor. In one of its latest publications, the publication found that in 2017, almost half of Hidalgo’s annual hospitality allowance went to luxury brands.

“Instead of fulfilling her direct duties, Anne Hidalgo is interested in the distant Caucasus. And this looks like inciting a conflict in a troubled region, where the beneficiary is not Armenia, but Russia, which benefits from the “slow decay” of Karabakh,” says the publication of “Censor”.

It was previously reported that the Kremlin is putting pressure on its proxies in Karabakh to ensure that Russian troops remain there for another five years.
