Poland continues to strengthen the border with Russia. Miroslava Aleksanderovich, a representative of the Warmia-Mazury department of the country’s border service, said that 107 kilometers of the wall had already been built on the border with the Russian Kaliningrad region. This is more than half the length of the land border with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation, which is about 198 km. The military has been building a wall on the Polish-Russian border since the beginning of November last year at the request of the border guards. It is 2.5 m high and 3 m wide. It consists of three rows of barbed wire stretched over metal poles driven into the ground. A protective net for wildlife has been installed in front of the wire fence.
In turn, in the first half of April, according to the publication, the start of installation work is expected. It will be a system of sensors and cameras that will allow round-the-clock monitoring of the border, regardless of weather conditions, without the need to be on the border line. The electronic barrier will cover almost the entire land border with Russia, with the exception of the Vistula Spit, where the border has been protected by electronic devices for several years.
According to the Polish border service, last year there were 11 cases of illegal crossing of the so-called green border from Russia to Poland for migration purposes. There were also cases of border road violations, mostly by tourists who wanted to take souvenir photos at the border post. For violation of the border strip, a fine of PLN 500 is provided.
This year, one case of illegal border crossing from Russia to Poland was recorded.
Earlier reported that Finland also began construction of a 200-kilometer fence on the border with Russia.
