A few days after the series finale succession on Max’s broadcast, the cast already shared their thoughts on the show’s latest betrayal. Actor in the series finale Nicholas Brown- who played brother Roy’s cousin Greg - fell out with whoever became the successor: Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen). “Still adjusting to the fact” that the show had already ended, the actor also spoke about Greg’s storyline as well as the slap scene with McFadyen.
Through successionIn previous seasons, the story mostly revolved around betrayal, backstab and fights, with the main characters doing everything, even choosing a vicious path to become the next CEO of Waystar RoyCo. While the show has always featured bad characters, Greg was the most innocent of the family at first. About the evolution of the character, Brown shared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
“Greg has always been the most innocent guy in this family and there’s always the question, ‘Well, can anyone be innocent in Roy’s world?'” the actor shared, adding, “But I think the point of it is to his cuteness and the infringement of Greg’s innocence. You see when he pursues the character played by Dasha [Nekrasova], Comfrey that is quite sweet. And then you make it a little less sweet and romantic by calling yourself the Abominable Brother. I guess the evolution goes hand in hand with some of the trickier and crappier things he does on the other side of things.”
Greg has gone through ups and downs over the show’s four seasons. And though Greg’s innocence has always been successionpitting himself against all violent characters, Greg became more and more serious over time. The actor added:
“I think Greg has become a serious person. It’s not that he’s not going to be a complete idiot sometimes, maybe always, in some way. But he did enough to be taken seriously. in its development.”
Consequences of disgusting brothers
Tom and Greg, also known as the “Disgusting Brothers”, were the show’s favorite couple. Although their friendship continued throughout the series, that all changed when two fan favorites were physically abused during a particularly heated exchange. Speaking about the fight scene with McFadyen, Brown also told THR:
“It was so much fun. And so exciting. It just felt so good for these guys that this moment. We didn’t really plan anything,” he continued, adding, “After the first take, Matthew’s face was very red because I slapped him. very hard. So we had to go fast because he got more and more red with every take. And there are a couple of takes where we hit each other more in the face. There were a few more shots that we both got, maybe a fist in the stomach or something like that. We played at different levels and this was the one we landed on. But it was damn fun. We were both so charged, full of adrenaline. And then we had to go home with all this adrenaline.”
The series finale gave Roy’s siblings a “completely painful” ending because none of them succeeded their father. Starring Jeremy Strong, Kieran CulkinAnd Sarah Snook As the show’s siblings and would-be Waystar successor RoyCo, Kendall, Roman and Shiv have endured many betrayals over the last three seasons. The show’s latest season is no different, giving the trio a shocking and melancholic ending.
All four seasons succession now available for streaming on Max.
