We may have to wait a bit before we finally get to enjoy the long-awaited limited series. Big hopes, but the teaser trailer released today by the BBC does exactly what it’s supposed to. Based on the legendary novel Charles Dickensthe story centers around an orphan boy who is taken in by a wealthy maid whose life goes downhill after an abusive and failed relationship.
Though short, but a teaser Big hopes cries of decay. In fact, decay becomes Olivia Colman (Crown), as she wears a messy wedding dress with a tangled veil, flaunts bad teeth and an expression of desperation, all of which make her look like Coleman’s character Miss Havisham, straight out of a horror movie. The room she lives in also reflects her years of depression, with a dark, dirty and hazy scenario where you can almost smell the dirt and mold.
The scene of Miss Havisham’s first meeting with Pip (Fionn Whitehead) and she looks at him and measures him from head to toe. You have to give Oscar-winner Olivia Colman credit for being able to look and feel great, even if her character has clearly hit rock bottom. Her deliveryWhat a valuable creature we caught from the rivermakes it clear that Havisham does not consider herself defeated - or at least does not want to show how she feels inside.
