BMW customers asked for help. More than 11,000 machines have serious flaws

WOKiK warns about defects that may occur in BMW models. This is a serious matter, as it concerns the repair of parts responsible for the safety of passengers.

BMW has reported to the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection that four of its models (X1, X5, X6, Series 2 Active Tourer) may be defective. The problem is related to defects in the airbags and seat belts. The service campaign in Poland covers a total of 11,317 vehicles of this brand.

Defective airbags

The airbag defect was found in the models: X5 (E70) and X6 (E71/72), which were produced in Germany. According to BMW, PSPI-2 and PSDI-5 passenger airbag failure is possible in these vehicles. The disadvantage is the degradation of the tablets that form the propellant. If the airbag deploys, the malfunction can lead to excessively aggressive combustion, which can cause the gas generator housing to rupture, and metal fragments can pass through the airbag material and enter the vehicle at high speed. The manufacturer emphasizes that the risk of failure will increase with the age of the car.

On the Polish market, the repair campaign covered 10,324 vehicles. Owners of faulty vehicles will be called to an authorized BMW station for repairs, where mechanics will replace the faulty airbag if necessary.

Seat belt sticking

Owners of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (U06) and X1 (U11) will receive a different service call. On these German-made models, the rear seat belt can be caught under the C-pillar trim. If the seat belt is stuck, it can be released by pulling hard. In the event of an accident, the forward driving force can only release the seat belt after the seat belt pretensioner has deployed. This may increase the risk of injury to passengers in the rear of the vehicle. The service action covers almost a thousand X1 and Series 2 Active Tourer models (993 units in total).

Car owners who may experience defective rear seat belts should visit an authorized BMW workshop where mechanics will replace the defective parts.
