The motorhome season has already begun. Many people, especially those who start their adventure with caravanning, wonder where in Poland you can roam?
Ease of movement, independence, as well as direct contact with nature are the biggest advantages of using a motorhome. However, when you go on vacation, you have to spend the night at the campsite every time? Or maybe you can legally spend the night in the wilderness?
Overnight in nature in Norway.
Going on a trip on a motorhome, you want to change the location often, preferably choosing places located far from civilization. In some countries (especially Scandinavian) you can sleep anywhere in a motorhome. In other cases, you can get a high fine for setting up a camp outside of a campsite (for example, in Croatia). Therefore, going on a trip abroad, you need to familiarize yourself with the rules in force in this country. And what do the Polish rules say about camping in the wild with a motorhome?
The best in nature
There are no specific provisions in Polish law prohibiting camping in the wild. It turns out that our country is friendly to people traveling in motorhomes and choosing this way of staying overnight. However, this does not mean that we can stay overnight or camp anywhere. Of course, camping is prohibited in the reserves and on the coast. For violation of the rules, a fine of up to PLN 500 is provided. Having decided to spend the night in nature, let’s check if we accidentally stayed on private territory. Then we must ask the landlord for permission to stop.
Camping in the woods? Yes, but…
You can also try to stay overnight in the forest. However, in the case of this place, several important conditions must be met. First, you can legally use only the roads provided for the movement of vehicles in the forest by the forestry. Usually there is an information board at the beginning of such a road. Secondly, there are separate parking rules in the forests. A motorhome, like any other car, can only be parked in designated areas. Parking a car outside a forest parking lot incurs the same penalty as entering a forest.

When planning the route of the motorhome, we can go to the website of the state forests (www.lasy.gov.pl) and find the address information of the forestry we are interested in (there are as many as 429 in Poland). However, if we don’t feel like doing it every time, fans of wild camping in Poland can use the website www.czaswlas.pl. This is a guidebook created by the state forests that makes it easier not only to plan your motorhome trip, but every trip. It contains information on where to find places to legally park your motorhome in the woods, or to camp in a tent overnight. In total, we will find here as many as 17,000 forest objects of various standards and places specially designed, for example, for a fire. In addition, there are contact details of the forest inspectorate, which takes care of this place.
Another tool that motorhome users can use is the California on Tour app. This free tool is intended for owners and users of Volkswagen group motorhomes (including Caddy California, California 6.1 and Grand California), as well as for people who are just considering buying a motorhome from this brand. The application allows, among other things, to plan a trip, provide information about campsites on the route, and also contains educational videos that show in detail the benefits and use of motorhomes.
