AvtoVAZ is on forced leave. Will the Russians switch to bicycles?

Must read

This year, the production break at the Lada plant began two months earlier. The reason is the lack of components for the manufacture of cars. This is not the only problem of the Russian auto industry.

Russians are increasingly feeling the consequences of the invasion of Ukraine. Last summer, sales of new cars in Russia recorded an increase (19% in July, 17% in August). The Russian market grew in the first half of 2022 to 981,000 units, which means an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2021. Automotive data from Russia may not be as optimistic this year.

Another forced vacation

According to Interia.pl, there is another break in production at the largest Russian car plant in Togliatti. The crew was once again sent on forced leave. There is nothing unusual about a break in car production, it is used by almost all car factories in the world. This is due to the need to carry out maintenance and repair of the plant’s machine park or, possibly, to adapt it to the production of new models.

However, in the case of the Russian plant AvtoVAZ, the summer break in production, which was originally scheduled for July 24, had to be postponed to an earlier date. It started two months earlier - on May 29. Reason: lack of imported components for the production of cars. The portal reports that, despite serious problems with the availability of individual components, AvtoVAZ does not abandon its ambitious production plans for 2023 - 400,000 units. Earth.

“The suspension will not affect the availability of vehicles at dealerships and will create an additional inventory of parts to keep the plant running in the second half of the year. - says Maxim Sokolov, president of Lada.

More and more Chinese cars in Russia

The problem of the limited supply of cars to Russians has another aspect. The lack of cars from Western European countries has led Russians to buy cars from China. Interia.pl cites data from the Russian Autostat, which shows that in 2021 only 10 percent of newly registered cars in Russia came from Chinese manufacturers. In April of this year, it was already 40 percent. cars. In the first quarter of 2023, about 40,000 pieces were imported from China to Russia. new cars, which means an increase in imports in this direction year on year by as much as 188 percent.
