From time to time we hear that someone has given up coffee because they are doing a detox. Others advise to refuse, because it “washes out” calcium and dehydrates the body, others say that it is impossible to fast on an empty stomach, because it irritates the stomach and intestines, and the fourth - which provokes cancer. However, despite all the horror stories, people continue to drink coffee. Known dietetics Oksana Skitylinskaya told how to use the properties of the drink with maximum benefit.
“Coffee is a tonic drink, a few sips of which contain thousands of biologically active substances. Among them is caffeine, thanks to which coffee gives a feeling of cheerfulness, energy, and well-being. After we have drunk a cup of coffee, after 45 minutes, almost 90% of the caffeine enters the bloodstream, and this feeling of vivacity and energy continues for another 2.5-4.5 hours, then the caffeine is excreted from the body and slight fatigue sets in, especially if already afternoon, evening. This is because caffeine acts on neurons (brain cells) in a certain way: it attaches to receptors on their surface, they are called adenosine. During the day, cells produce a substance called adenosine. An increase in it is a signal from the body about the depletion of energy reserves. This fatigue is a signal to the body that it is time to rest. But instead of getting at least 10-15 minutes of sleep, gaining real energy, we prepare ourselves a cup of strong coffee. And it really activates us. More precisely, caffeine molecules block adenosine and displace it from the receptors. Caffeine is a weak psychostimulant. If we drink coffee every day and a lot, caffeine insensitivity can develop over time. This is a state when new adenosine receptors begin to form on the surface of cells and adenosine molecules “sit down” on them, despite caffeine. So the body seeks to protect itself from excessive stimulation and relax. It manifests itself in the fact that a person drinks and drinks coffee, but there is no feeling of cheerfulness, on the contrary, fatigue comes earlier and in order to tone up, you need more and more coffee, and more time to restore the body. Therefore, the maximum reasonable dose of caffeine is 300 mg per day. Going beyond this limit, you enter the risk zone of overwork and cardiovascular problems..

To get rid of caffeine addiction, nutrition advises to reduce the number of cups of coffee gradually.
“Coffee is really healthy, but it all depends on the dose. It has a positive effect on the functioning of the liver and the immune system, reduces the risk of heart disease and inflammation in general, improves the condition and functioning of blood vessels, - Says Oksana Skitalinskaya. - Reduces the chance of type 2 diabetes, liver cancer, prostate cancer, and some types of breast cancer. May reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. Because coffee not only tones the brain, but also protects it. Coffee also reduces inflammation through polyphenols and hydroxycormic acid from roasted coffee. If you like coffee, then drink it, but 2-3 times a day and preferably in the morning, in the afternoon, if you want to cheer up, you can drink a glass of weak green tea. If you can sleep, do it before 3 pm. You will significantly extend the period of active work, as if you had a few more hours in the morning. Don’t drink coffee at night.
