Heist of the century in Dresden: members of the Remmo clan sentenced for stealing 113 million euros in gold relics

Must read

In Germany, the trial of criminals who committed a daring robbery in Dresden in 2019 has ended. They managed to get into the famous Green Vault Museum and take out rare jewels from the collection of the rulers of Saxony. According to official estimates, the value of the stolen goods amounted to 113 million euros. However, the German media confidently wrote that even a billion euros was not enough to assess the losses. The press explained this by the fact that the decorations are of great historical value.

The investigation lasted at least a year. Five suspects were arrested. All of them were part of a criminal group known in Germany as the Remmo clan. One of them had previously been convicted of stealing a giant 100kg gold coin from Berlin’s Bode Museum in 2017. The coin has never been found. Experts believe that it was melted down.

There were serious fears that the same fate awaited the jewelry from the Dresden collection. Fortunately, the police managed to track down most of what the Remmo clan members took out of the Green Vault in the early morning of November 25, 2019. However, some of the priceless exhibits still cannot be found.

It was hoped that the criminals would agree to reveal where the treasures were hidden in exchange for a reduced sentence, but only three of them made the deal. They face four to six years in prison. They helped find some of the stolen goods.

31 exhibits were returned to the museum. Among what was not found, a rare diamond “White Stone of Saxony” occupies a special place.

Earlier reported on the theft of a unique collection of gold coins in Germany.
