$300 million worth of arms and ammunition: US promises new military aid to Ukraine

In anticipation of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, the US government announced new military assistance to Ukraine. In order to be able to supply our state with a sufficient amount of ammunition, the EU wants to expand its own production of ammunition. For this, 500 million euros will be allocated from the EU budget.

The United States promised Ukraine new deliveries of weapons and ammunition in the amount of $300 million. According to the US Department of Defense, the latest package of military aid to Kyiv includes ammunition for HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, howitzers, artillery ammunition and weapons against armored vehicles.

US President Joe Biden Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that the US government has done a lot in recent months to meet the requests of the Ukrainian government.on the eve of the planned counteroffensiveagainst Russia. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Washington has provided or promised to provide $35.7 billion worth of military assistance to the government in Kyiv.

At the same time, the European Commission presented a plan to significantly expand the production of ammunition in the European Union. According to Thierry Breton, Commissioner for the Internal Market, with the help of 500 million euros from the EU budget, new arms factories will be built and existing ones will be expanded.

“The plan is the European Commission’s response to increased demand caused by the war in Ukraine and will help provide Ukraine with more ammunition for its defense and bolster Europe’s defense capabilities. - stated European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. - We remain true to our commitment to support Ukraine and the Ukrainian people for as long as necessary.”

Breton expressed confidence that the production of artillery shells in the EU could be increased to one million pieces within a year.
