The Norwegian armed forces have confirmed to the Nettavisen newspaper that they are seeing increased Russian activity in the North Sea.
“In the future, we expect significant Allied and Russian activity in our maritime areas. The Russians are in international waters legally, but our armed forces monitor their activity,” - reports the Norwegian Defense Operational Headquarters.
A lot of activity is expected here in May and June.
“May and June are a busy period of exercise for the Norwegian armed forces and our allies… There are now several Russian ships in the North Sea, and this activity is higher than in recent years.”
Well-known military analyst G. I. Sutton reports five Russian warships in the North Sea. As he noted, the ships left the Russian harbors in the Baltic Sea. He refers, among other things, to satellite images of the Russian Karakurt-class frigate. He also writes that all five ships heading north can be equipped with long-range Kalibr missiles.
“The most likely explanation for this is the unannounced exercise,” writes Mr Sutton.
It should be noted that four days before the explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines, east of the Danish island of Bornholm, there was a Russian special vessel SS-750. It is it that has on its board a minisubmarine of the AS-26 Priz type.
Earlier reported that, according to German experts, the version of the “Ukrainian trace” in the explosions at Nord Stream does not stand up to scrutiny.
