Head of Ukrainian Intelligence Major General Kirill Budanovwho previously stated that more than 300,000 Russians are fighting in Ukraine, gave his assessment of Russia’s “big offensive”.
“The big Russian offensive they put behind the target is already underway. But it continues so that not everyone even sees - this is an offensive of such quality. They have a strategic task - to reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions by March 31,” he noted in an interview with forbes.ua and added that the occupation of Donbass is a dream of Russians that they will not be able to realize.
Journalists asked how the Russians, whose stocks of equipment and ammunition are depleted, intend to go on the offensive. “No way — answered the head of the GUR MO. - Therefore, this “huge offensive” is not even noticed by everyone. Regarding stocks of weapons, they are now setting up mass production of artillery shells. This once again confirms that there are no stocks of shells, they are not enough.
According to Budanov, the Russian groups operating in Ukraine have been living in the regime of maximum savings in ammunition for two months now. And more or less normally, ammunition is now used exclusively in Bakhmut and the Liman direction. “They tried several times to storm Ugledar, and they will continue to try, so this location was added. In all other areas - the mode of saving ammunition, “- he stressed and added that it is unlikely that Russia will be able to deploy production sufficient for artillery warfare.
As for missiles, according to intelligence, the enemy “remained a small percentage of the total.” They are produced in smaller quantities than are used during one attack.
“In total, they produce sometimes 20, sometimes 22 Caliber missiles per month. These are the ones that are allowed from the sea. About 15, sometimes up to 20 reaching, X-101 type missiles. That is why the number of rockets decreases in each salvo. The intensity of shelling is decreasing. At first there were massive rocket attacks every Monday, then once every eight days, now once every ten days, for two weeks. They reduce the number of missiles and increase the time span.”he noted.
According to Kirill Budanov, the Russians do not have the capacity to increase the production of missiles: “No capacity, it’s a bubble. It is impossible, if you have not done anything for 30 years, in one day, in the conditions of war and sanctions, to do as you want.”
He also commented on the emergency events that have become more frequent in Russia, where at the end of last year the number of major incidents doubled.
“A lot of this is no coincidence. Something is constantly on fire. Signaling equipment on the railways, it burns every day several times, on different highways constantly for two or three hours, sometimes for five or six hours, traffic stops along the entire section. It is clear that it does not just burn.he says.
Answering the question of journalists whether the Ukrainians in Russia help with this, Budanov said: Why only Ukrainians? I would say this: money works wonders.
The head of Ukrainian intelligence confirmed his point of view on the course of hostilities, noting that the decisive battles would go on from mid to late spring. He called them the turning point in the war.
He drew a “football” analogy, noting that after a year of large-scale invasion, the situation developed as in the 70th minute of the match with the score 1:1. Ukraine has a task - to reach the administrative border of 1991, everything else will be solved over time.
Budanov did not undertake to predict when the war would end: “I can only answer you when it is over. It will end with the first phase for us - access to the administrative border. But since we talked to you that now it’s 1:1 and 70 minutes of the match, make a chronometric parallel.
