Formations on human skin have always been surrounded by a halo of myths. One of the myths is the assertion that moles cannot be removed. This is a myth, because the removal of a benign mole does not pose any threat. dermatologist Tatyana Boychuk.
“ANDAnother thing is that the most malignant tumor on the human body - melanoma, in its initial stages can look completely like a mole. And if it is not recognized in time and removed by the wrong method, it can cost a person his life. If the doctor plans to remove the mole, he performs dermatoscopy. This is such a method for assessing the quality of moles using a special optical device that allows you to see all the structures of the formation ten times larger and evaluate them. If the doctor has doubts about the mole, he performs a biopsy. And it will definitely not be removed with a coagulator or laser (these methods lead to the burning of the removed tissues and it becomes impossible to conduct a histological assessment and determine what was removed). And only after receiving the results of a biopsy of a dubious formation, further tactics are determined.
But there is another myth. And it is considered a great and dangerous delusion. This is a myth about the presence of hair growth, supposedly indicating a benign mole.“.
According to the doctor, the presence of a hair in a mole is not evidence of good quality.
“Can there be a good mole with a hair? Yes. Can there be skin cancer with hair? Yes! In the initial stages, the tumor does not yet have time to destroy the hair follicle and the hair continues to grow quietly in the initial melanoma and other types of skin cancer. And when you hear from any doctor (even with great regalia) that if you have hair on your mole, then everything is fine and you can remove it with a coagulator or laser - run away from such a doctor faster. If melanoma is removed with a coagulator, this is death. If you skip melanoma (because there is hair there, which means everything is fine) - this is also death“.
Recall that the doctor Ekaterina Bakiko dispelled common myths about whether laser hair removal causes cancer and other diseases.
