Google has announced how it wants to change Android and the Play Store. User privacy is one of the key goals for 2023. The internet giant is also wary of NFTs and web3.

A few days ago, Google announced on its official blog “key initiatives for 2023” that should set the direction for both the Android operating system and the Google Play Store mobile app ecosystem. What do the changes mean for the average user?

Google pays special attention to Android privacy

The main goal for this year is to make Android “an even more privacy-focused mobile ecosystem.”

Last year, the company announced a system called Privacy Sandbox (literally - Privacy Sandbox), which aims to significantly reduce user tracking between applications and the practice of so-called. secret tracking of Internet users. Currently, Google has already started beta testing of the sandbox for users and application developers.

Another aspect is enhanced consumer information about how app makers collect their data, with whom they share it, and how they protect user privacy. The changes relate to the development of the data security section of Google Play - new features and changes in the company’s policy are designed to make it easier for the average user to verify, understand and control their data, as well as delete it.

Google is taking a close look at NFT tokens

The company also emphasizes that it hears from developers a desire to integrate Android more with concepts such as the metaverse or NFT tokens. Blockchain software is already present in the Google Play Store app ecosystem, but the Mountain View giant has been very wary of other web3 systems so far.

Google is also not going to be too hasty in 2023. According to the company, before fiat tokens and other novelties can move into Android apps and games, an appropriate balance must be achieved. It is about the middle ground between rapid innovation and the security of users and their data.

For now, the company needs to stay in constant contact with developers and partners to lay the groundwork for future Android changes to NFTs. The company is expected to provide more information about this “in the coming months.”
