The 28-year-old from Odessa defeated the native of Moscow, who had never passed the first round of the French Open before, in the hardest three-set duel - 2:6, 6:2, 7:5. Traditionally, after the match, the Ukrainian pointedly ignored her rival in Russia.

Access to the 1/8 finals of the Grand Slam tournament brought Elina 240 thousand euros in prize money “dirty”. The Ukrainian will challenge her ticket to the quarterfinals in the confrontation with the first racket of Russia Daria Kasatkina (9th in the world), who defeated Peyton Stearns (USA, 69th) - 6:0, 6:1.

Recall that the best result of Svetolina at Roland Garros is getting into the quarterfinals in 2015, 2017 and 2020.
