Bartosz Kurek on the royal throne. Great honor for a Pole

Must read

Polish representatives are already in Japan, where the first tournament of the Nations League 2023 starts next week. Bartosz Kurek, who knows the local halls well, is not in the squad. Despite the absence, the national team striker has reason to be happy with the sport.

Polish representatives are preparing for the first tournament of the current season. After two friendly matches in Silesia against Germany, Nikola Grbić’s men traveled to Japan, where they will first play the next two friendly matches before joining the inaugural tournament of the 2023 Men’s Nations League.

Bartosz Kurek Japan League MVP

Most of the stars of the national team are not in the lineup for the Asian competitions. It is in vain to look for Tomas Fornal, Bartosz Bednorets or Alexander Slivka. Players Jastrzębski Węgiel and Grupa Azoty ZAKSY Kędzierzyn-Koźle received additional free time from the coach to rest after the difficulties of the last season. Both teams were still playing in the Champions League final on 20 May.

The team for the Japanese stage of the League of Nations also lacked Bartosz Kurek, who also joined the team rather late. Wolf Dogs forward Nagoya, despite taking a break from volleyball, may have reason to be satisfied. V.League, the organizer of the Japanese League Championship, awarded him the 2022/2023 season MVP award. The striker led his club to a second league title in history. Kurek already had bronze and silver in his achievements, but he lacked a disk made of the most precious metal.

The Poles will play in Japan

The club from Nagoya, in which the Polish team will play the tournament, has already announced the extension of the contract with the 34-year-old striker. Bartosz Kurek’s team mates will start the tournament next week. Grbic’s rivals will be France, Iran, Bulgaria and Serbia. Before that, they will play two friendly matches against Japan (June 1-2).

Kurek has been playing Wolf Dogs volleyball since 2020. Previously, he performed at Vero Volley Monza, Onico Warszawa, Cucine Lube Civitanova, Dinamo Moscow or PGE Skra Bełchatów.
