Thomas Turnbichler thunders and warns. He saw great danger

Must read

Thomas Turnbichler emphasizes as a mantra that the organizers of the World Cup competitions should be more concerned about the safety of ski jumpers. The Austrian coach is disappointed and furious after what happened in Lahti.

Last weekend ski jumpers competed with each other in Lahti, where especially on Sunday they fought not so much with each other as with the raging wind. The competition was paralyzed to such an extent that the first series lasted over an hour and a half, and the second round was not even played. Thomas Turnbichler believes that what happened in Finland should give food for thought in the context of player safety.

Thomas Turnbichler angry after Sunday’s competition in Lahti

- It was a lottery. The wind was unpredictable. I didn’t think about the results, I was just wondering where the safety margin was in ski jumping. Where is she? – the white-red breeder asked rhetorically in an interview with skijumping.pl.

“I don’t feel good when I have to wave the flag in situations where the wind suddenly changes direction and strength,” he admitted. In practice, in many jumps, we knew how strong the gusts of wind were that rocked the players when they were in the air. It was easier for someone to keep the balance, for someone it was more difficult, and, fortunately, there was no tragedy. However, the Austrian believes that it was irresponsible to hold competitions in such conditions.

Thomas Turnbichler warns of potential tragedy

“This is what we need to discuss. I have already spoken to Sandro Pertile. Maybe someone sees it differently, but at the end of the day I am responsible for these players, and this is not a very comfortable position when you stand on top and decide to let the players go, Turnbichler says, and this hardly surprises him. . The coach naturally worries about athletes starting in difficult conditions and, as you can see, shares his thoughts with the most important people in the world of ski jumping. However, it is not known what he will be able to achieve.

– We had one fall in qualifying, but it was due to driver error, not because of the wind. However, it is enough to take the wrong step at the wrong time, and for someone it can be the end of not only the season, but also the career, ”he concluded bitterly.
