In the recording, Ozil explained why he decided to hang up his shoes. He even stated that there is no need to wait for the end of the 2022/23 season. “I have had the pleasure of playing professional football for 17 years and I am very grateful that I was given this opportunity. However, in recent weeks and months I have been plagued by injuries that have made it clear that it is time to leave the football scene.”
