The President of Ukraine, who was accused in Russia of attacking the Kremlin, Volodymyr Zelensky, arrived in Finland on May 3. He visited Helsinki at the invitation of his Finnish colleague Sauli Niinostio.
The President of Ukraine welcomed Finland to NATO membership and said he hoped his country would also be invited to join the Alliance.
The presidents of both countries held talks. They concerned the defense struggle and support for Ukraine from Finland, bilateral relations between the two countries and the global geopolitical situation.
The President of Finland, during a joint press conference, said that his country could not transfer Hornet aircraft to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He noted that his country “only has old Hornets that are just now being replaced.” According to him, the planes will already be outdated by the time they could be handed over to Ukraine.
“But we like your planes”Zelensky said in response.
“Yes, the planes are good. And I hope everyone knows this.”Niinostio retorted.
“Your neighbors (Russia. - Auth.) they know it”Zelensky added with a smile.
President Volodymyr Zelensky made such a statement during a joint press conference with Finnish President Sauli Niinostio.
“Why am I sure that we will have planes? Because soon we will have offensive actions. And after them, I’m sure they will give us planes … “, - said Zelensky.
Zelensky’s press conference in Finland ended shortly before the Kremlin’s announcement of a nighttime assassination attempt on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, so he was not asked about it.
As FACTS wrote, in March 2023, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin visited Ukraine.
