The care allowance will increase. How much will it be in 2024?

Must read

Starting next year, the care allowance will be higher than the current amount. How much exactly will it be and what else will change?

At present, a caregiver’s allowance is provided in the event of dismissal from work or other paid work of a person caring for a person with a severe disability. It is intended to partially cover the costs of carers for people with disabilities. This allowance is paid at the request of the eligible person. However, soon not only its size will change, but also the rules for its provision.

Increasing care allowance

At present, the care allowance is PLN 2458. According to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, in the near future, since from 2024 its value will increase by PLN 530 compared to the current amount. These changes are associated with an increase in the minimum wage, which the government intends to introduce from 2024. According to the Law on Family Benefits of November 28, 2003 (Journal of Laws 2023, art. 390, as amended), the amount of care allowance depends on the amount of the minimum wage. However, it should be noted that the second increase in the minimum wage, scheduled for July, will no longer result in an increase in the care allowance.

The care allowance is subject to annual indexation. This, in turn, is closely related to the percentage increase in the minimum wage. Although the deadline for issuing a minimum wage regulation is 15 September 2023, according to the proposal, it should be PLN 4,242. Due to the fact that on January 1 this year it was PLN 3,490, the indexation of care allowance will be 21.54 percent. This means that from January 2024, care allowance will be paid in the amount of PLN 2,988.

Changes in the payment of care allowance

In accordance with the Auxiliary Benefits Act published in the Legislative Gazette, we are waiting for new changes regarding the care allowance. They will come into effect on January 1, 2024. Under the new rules, care allowance will be available to parents or other carers of children with disabilities who are under 18 years of age, without any restrictions on employment or other paid work. In addition, the caregiver’s own pensions and disability benefits will not be affected by the caregiver’s own pensions and disability benefits.

Foster families, directors of foster homes, as well as persons in charge of family orphanages will also be able to apply for care allowance. In addition, if there is more than one disabled child in the family, the care allowance will be paid to each of them (it will be increased by 100% for the second and each subsequent child).

Find out the difference between care allowance, care allowance, and care allowance. These concepts are often confused with each other - however, there are many differences and they are very significant.
