The President signed the National Cancer Network (CSR) Law on March 9, 2023. How could this make a difference for people battling cancer? See what the introduction of new rules means for the patient.
The signing ceremony of the CSR act was held at the Sedlec Oncology Center, which operates as part of the Mazovian Voivodeship Hospital named after. st. John Paul II in Siedlce. The list of guests included deputies, senators, representatives of local governments and patient organizations.
It was also attended by Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski, together with the leadership of the ministry Marcin Kulicki, Chairman of the Board of the Mazovian Voivodship Hospital in Siedlce, and Lubomir Bodnar, Director of the Siedlce Cancer Center. The President was accompanied by the head of the KPRP and a member of the Health Council, Grazhyna Ignachak-Bandykh.
The number of cancer patients is growing.
During the ceremony, the President stressed that the work to introduce CSR and improve the system of medical care for cancer patients has actually been carried out since the beginning of his presidency. He also drew attention to the growing number of people who are struggling with cancer (200,000 people have been diagnosed with eye cancer). Factors such as:
-
tobacco smoking,
-
alcohol consumption,
-
malnutrition,
-
passive lifestyle,
-
neglect of the so-called hygiene of life.
What will the CSR Law change in the situation with cancer patients?
The introduction of the CSR Law was preceded by an assessment of the health care system. It turned out that in Poland there are 806 institutions dealing with cancer patients. However, most of them do not provide adequate care to patients. The KSO Act is meant to change that.
“Finally, we are creating the National Cancer Network, a national network of institutions with a complete cancer treatment and control system in a way that maximizes patient support and facilitates patient access on an equal footing. and equally for cancer care throughout the country to create an opportunity for everyone,” the President noted.
The CSR Law will provide not only greater accessibility of specialized medical services. Standards for diagnosing and treating cancer will also improve. The patient will receive more comprehensive care than before.
