Paramount+ just announced the addition of a new original series to Star Trek Universe. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is going to follow a group of young cadets “who are coming of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy.” No casting call has yet been announced for the new series, which was first announced back in 2021. Alex Kurtzman will serve as executive producer and co-showrunner along with Leg Landau. In a joint statement, the duo gave a few hints as to when the series might take place within the franchise and where it sits on the spectrum. Star Trekcurrent offers.

Knowing that this class of Starfleet cadets is the first in “over a century”, it is highly likely that this show will be set in Opening era Star Trekwhich is definitely good news for fans Sonequa Martin-Green-ice series. In season 4 Star Trek: Discoverywe saw Mary WisemanTilly took a sabbatical and spent some time at Starfleet Academy to explore other opportunities besides serving aboard the award-winning starship. With the announcement that Opening will end with its upcoming fifth season due out on Paramount+ sometime in early 2024, the ability to extend our time in this part of the universe would be a welcome addition to the franchise. It can also allow guests from Disco a crew that many fans are not yet ready to say goodbye to. Production on Starfleet Academy should start in 2024.
More options with Star Trek: Legacy
Starfleet Academy not the only one Star Trek spin-off series that fans have been clamoring for lately. Star Trek: Picard the third and final season is currently airing and with only a few episodes left, fans don’t want this story to end and recent episodes have laid a lot of potential for the future. The third season introduced “the next generation” New Generationwith Jean-Luc PicardPatrick Stewart) and Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) the secret child at the center of it all. Showrunner Terry Matalas mentioned on Twitter that if Paramount+ greenlit a spin-off series, it would be called Star Trek: Legacy. If the show were to continue, and we really hope it does, we would probably see a series dedicated to both the newly introduced progeny TNG crew, Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), Sidney (Ashley Sharp Chestnut) and Alandra La Forge (Mika Burton), as well as the future of several legacy characters such as Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and Raffi (Michelle Hurd). Star Trek legend Jonathan Frakes even told Fanside that he “could be like Charlie in Charlie’s Angels, the admiral they hang out with.”
