Safe dose of alcohol - what does the science say?

prof. Ewa Stachowska cited a study published in the Lancet. The authors of the study tested the limits of safe drinking in a large group of people and calculated the risk factors that result from drinking 100 g of alcohol per week. As prof. Stakhovskaya found that people who drink 100 g of alcohol per week have a higher risk of stroke or coronary heart disease (excluding myocardial infarction), heart failure, death from hypertension, and death from aortic aneurysm dissection.

It also turned out that the higher the declared amount of alcohol in the diet, the lower the life expectancy. “And people who drink 350 or more grams of alcohol per week have a life expectancy reduced by 4-5 years at the age of 40! Incredible, right? And as if that’s not enough:

  • Eating more than 100 grams and less than 200 grams per week shortens the life of a 40-year-old man by 6 months.

  • more than 200 g and less than 350 g per week - shortens life by 1-2 years.

The conclusion from the study is that among people who currently drink alcohol, the lowest risk of death from all causes occurs in people who drink less than 100 g of alcohol per week! And that’s what we’re sticking to this Christmas,” Prof. Stakhovskaya.
