Editor’s Note: This article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

If you are one of those who stayed in the cinema until the very last second Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, you must have felt a little disappointed to learn that this movie didn’t have post-credits scenes, even though Marvel and Sony have tried to include them in just about every superhero movie in the last decade or so. In an interview with Collider, the co-directors of the blockbuster Joaquim dos Santos And Kemp Powers showed why they decided to put it off.

During the interview, Powers and Dos Santos explained to our editor in chief Steve Weintraub that the more they thought about what would be a good mid- or post-credits scene, the more they realized they wanted those scenes to be an equal part of the second film’s final act:

“Honestly, I think one of the elements of that is that – no spoiler – the very, very last bit of the movie, we discussed doing post-titles, but then we’re just like, “You know what? It should be before the credits.” So, it was about which of these few moments at the end should we do after the credits? We investigated Miles tied to a punching bag, we talked about it after the credits. We talked about the return of Gwen and Peter B., we talked about it after the credits, but then we settled on what I love, which is the kind of intersection between the plight of all these characters that kind of catapults us. to the next movie and knowing that the cavalry is coming for Miles.”

No end credits scene Through the universes of spiders It was a hard decision

Powers and Dos Santos added that the decision not to include a post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was the result of approximately four years of work on the project. During this time, they made several decisions as to how to complete the film, and that the end goal was always, of course, to want “people to be excited about what’s next” in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. So, they decided to work on their balancing skills to create a final moment that would send people home feeling like they were watching a post-credits scene when it wasn’t there.

Despite the absence of a post-credits scene, you will not hear Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse fans are complaining. The film has already made cinematic history by breaking box office records, earning critical acclaim and having fans speculate about the features of the franchise as well as searching the internet for dozens of the film’s Easter eggs.
