Fans of the horror genre and vampire-themed classics must have been thrilled with the arrival of the horror comedy. Renfield. Debuting in theaters earlier this year with a rather lackluster run, a recent report from Deadline revealed that Universal Pictures had set June 9 as the streaming date for the horror comedy on Peacock.
It premiered on April 14, and the streaming release date announcement followed immediately after the digital and VOD release, which began on May 2. The horror comedy will also be released on Blu-ray and DVD in June. Starring Nicolas Cage like the iconic vampire himself, Count Dracula and Nicholas Hoult as his titular lackey, Renfield, who is always available to run errands, the picture was expected to perform better than it actually did. However, given the shift to a different audience, this could give the film a chance to gain momentum and develop a cult following that it unfortunately couldn’t handle in theaters.
Renfield based on Bram Stoker1897 cult novel, Dracula like many classic vampire films centered around this narcissistic character. Director Chris McKay, the film follows the tale of Renfield serving Dracula for centuries, acquiring whatever he desires and doing all his bidding, no matter how humiliating. But now, if only Renfield can find a way to end his toxic and slavish relationship with the Prince of Darkness, he can seek a new life beyond the shadows of his current circumstances.
A long history of Dracula on screen
The film was shot according to a script written by the screenwriter Ryan Ridley. Additional cast members to the aforementioned Holt and Cage include Aquafina, Ben SchwartzAnd Adrian Martinez. McKay, Samantha Nisenboim, Brian Furst, Sean Furst, Robert Kirkman And David Alpert make a film with Todd Lewis acting as an executive producer. Production Renfield continues the long history of the Prince of Darkness films. First, 1922 silent film directed by FV Murnau iInspired by German Expressionism and based on the work of Stoker, it became an influential film of its era. Then came 1979. Werner Herzog-directed Nosferatu Vampire.
Modern audiences will be even more familiar with the legendary vampire when Universal releases the character’s final image on August 11. Demeter’s last journey.
