In anticipation of the wide release of the author’s latest film, which will take place on June 23, the hugely popular community among cinephiles has set the task of finding and collecting fourteen asteroid city-themed elements on your website and apps. Announced asteroid city star Geoffrey Wright on Letterboxd social media accounts, the main prize is a private screening asteroid city for the winner and his friends at the nearest cinema with cash prizes asteroid city merchandise and movie tickets.
“We love finding playful ways for our community to explore Letterboxd, so we were excited to partner with Focus Features on this unique project,” said Letterboxd co-founder and CEO. What asteroid city ABOUT?
The film takes place in 1955. The film is based on a community that hosted a youth stargazers convention designed for recreation, entertainment, and showcasing comedy and drama. Everyone is getting ready to enjoy the event, which takes place in the fictional city where the film takes place, but everything will change when the possibility of the presence of alien life in Asteroid City becomes a reality. The government then tries to conduct a study to study the discoveries made by the city and affecting its inhabitants.
However, in an added twist, the people present in it are also part of a play set in a controlled environment, posing as a small town. To distinguish reality from what is being said on stage, Anderson filmed the non-acting sequences in black and white, allowing viewers to discern whether what the characters are talking about is written in their world or not. The two different realities then come together in an attempt to discover something more real.
