Tribute falls on Tina Turneron the passing of the iconic performer earlier today at the age of 83. Turner, who suffered from health problems for some time, died at her home in Switzerland, having lived a rich and very memorable life.
Such was the scope of her life, a feature film was made about her - What is love capable of? while she was still with us, and the star of that movie, Angela Bassett, led a tribute to Turner. Describing Turner as “The Queen”, Bassett was honored to know Turner and “humiliated” to play her on screen. Bassett, who was nominated for an Academy Award for the film, told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement:
How do we say goodbye to a woman who has acknowledged her pain and trauma and used it as a vehicle to change the world? Through the courage with which she told her story, her determination to stay on her path in life no matter the sacrifices, and her determination to make a place in rock and roll for herself and for others who are like her, Tina Turner has shown others who lived in fear of what a beautiful future filled with love, compassion and freedom should look like.
Her last words to me—for me—were: “You never imitated me. Instead, you went deep into your soul, found your inner Tina and showed it to the world.” I will keep these words close to my heart until the end of my days. It is a great honor for me to be acquainted with Tina Turner. I’m proud to have helped show it to the world. So today, as we mourn the loss of that iconic voice and presence, she gave us more than we could ever ask for. She gave her all to us. And Tina Turner is a gift that will always be “simply the best.” Angels, sing to your rest… Queen.”
Bassett was one of many who took to social media to discuss their love and memories of Turner with the likes of Mick Jagger And Forest Whitaker adding to the chorus of praise. Jagger called her a “wonderful friend” and Whitaker called the performer an “icon” who was “simply the best”.

Rosario Dawson described Turner as “gorgeous”, adding that she was “grateful” that she was able to watch her performance while Debbie Harry - better known as blondie - noted that Turner was for me “a great source of inspiration” and that she “remains so to this day.”
