10 “Look, she made a hat” (C2:7)
IMDb score: 8.7/10
Remember when wildly fantastic Zachary Levy was there an amazing character arc on Maisel? Played by Benjamin Ettenberg, Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) love interest for the season, they spent this episode immersing themselves and learning all about the world of the New York art scene. With incredible Rufus Sewell being a guest on this episode is a real treat.
In this episode, we see Midge finally reveal to her family that she also works as a comedian, which attracts all sorts of drama and fun. Weissman and Meisel’s family dynamics are a recipe for disaster and excitement. There is never a dull moment with them.
9 “Put it on your plate!” (S1:7)
IMDb score: 8.7/10
Susie (Alex Borstein) decides that Midge might need some help with her performance, and so throughout this episode we see Midge trying out new stage names while honing her performance in Gaslight. Susie is working to get Midge a seat at the opening for Sophie Lennon (Jane Lynch). The two end up dating and Sophie was more than meets the eye.
Midge and Susie learn that Sophie was presenting a false identity in her comedy act. In fact, she doesn’t look like the character she portrays at all. Midge decides to capitalize on this reality and makes Sophie a bit of a comedy and proves that women don’t have to fake who they are in order to be funny.
8 “Jewish girl enters Apollo…” (С3:8)
IMDb rating: 8.8/10
There was a lot of drama in the season 3 finale that we might not have expected. Midge gets the opportunity to perform at the legendary Apollo Theater for Shai Baldwin (Leroy McClain) large showcase. Little did she know that her jokes would cost her more than she could afford.
Just when she thought everything was going wrong for her, when she was about to board a plane to go on tour with Shai, Reggie (Sterling K. Brown) tells her that she has been excluded from the tour. As it turns out, when you tell personal jokes about someone, there is sometimes a price to pay, and that price was losing the tour.
7 “All alone” (С2:10)
IMDb rating: 8.9/10
Midge is everywhere in this episode. Abe (Tony Shalhoub) asks Benjamin for some very personal details in order to give his blessing on his marriage to Midge, even though she was still technically married to Joel (Michael Zegen), Rose (Marine Hinkle) visits her psychic and Sophie asks Susie to be her manager due to how she always fights for Midge.
We will see the amazing Lenny Bruce (incredible Luke Kirby) again. He and Midge sympathize with their despondency and loneliness. The two share some great moments together. A shy Baldwin notices Midge more intentionally and asks her to join him on his tour, and Abe blesses Benjamin to marry Midge.
6 “Thank you and good night” (С1:8)
IMDb rating: 9/10
Despite being rejected for slandering Sophie Lennon, Susie continues to perform as Midge in Gaslight, and she enjoys constant success there. Midge and Joel are reunited at their son’s birthday party, someone has made and is selling a bootleg copy of Midge’s first Gaslight performance and Joel hears this and is heartbroken at her words, but amazed at her immense talent.
It’s in this Season 1 finale that we officially introduce the character in which Midge decides to shape her career after Mrs. Maisel, and that’s how she ends her set after opening for Lenny Bruce. Even though Joel was hurt by her jokes about their marriage, he can’t help but be impressed by her as he truly believes she’s gorgeous.
5 “Vote Kennedy, Vote Kennedy” (C2:9)
IMDb rating: 9.1/10
Susie gives Midge a seat during a fundraising telethon, and just when she thought it would be her big break, they learn that Sophie Lennon has nominated Midge for the final slot. But in true Suzie and Midge style, they take that pain and turn it into strength, and Midge becomes an absolute hit on the show, bringing her to the attention of Shai Baldwin.
Dynamic duo Rachel Brosnahan And Alex Borstein it is truly a force to be reckoned with. The chemistry they’ve developed throughout the series comes through in every episode, but there are moments where they’re a lot edgier - and this episode is one of those moments. The interaction and banter between these two is something on this side of perfection and should be enjoyed.
4 “How to get to Carnegie Hall?” (S4:8)
IMDb rating: 9.1/10
The answer to the question “will they or won’t they” is finally given in the fourth season finale. After a wildly exciting moment with Lenny Bruce in Woolford, the police searching the place, and the two of them running into a snowstorm to Lenny’s hotel, they finally end up together… at least for the night. Despite their passion for each other, Midge discovers pills and needles in Lenny’s suitcase and he just brushes it off.
Up until this point, there had been real vulnerability in their relationship. They completely trusted each other and sincerely believed that they could work. However, in the heat of the moment, they succumbed to passion and realized that they were moving in two different directions. They sincerely loved each other, and it was thanks to this love that they realized that they could not be together, and wished each other all the best, and said goodbye.
3 “Midnight in Concord” (С2:5)
IMDb rating: 9.2/10
While on vacation in the Catskills, Midge takes to the night stage to perform a stand-up act involving various risqué jokes about her parents’ sex life. If she had only known that her father was in the gym when she started this set, she might have stopped herself. Although, as soon as she sees him, after a very slight hesitation, she continues the set to the roaring crowd.
Aside from this wildly inappropriate family reunion, Midge is running around trying to appease her bosses at B. Altman. She starts dating Benjamin seriously, even taking him to see Lenny Bruce (as well as confessing that she is a comedian). and tries to navigate the strange world of the Catskills along with her family and Joel’s family, each causing drama wherever they go.
2 Testi-Roastial (S5:6)
IMDb rating: 9.3/10
Now it was a truly dynamite stellar cast of guest stars! As the final season drew to a close, this episode featured a significant time jump as Susie, at an older age, was honored at the monks’ club for her amazing work in the show business industry. We also finally got to see what caused such a gap between Midge and Susie in the past that they didn’t speak for years.
This episode of flashbacks and flashback fragments featured guest stars such as Will Sasso, Sean Gunn Darren CrissAnd David Paymer. The most beautiful moment of the whole episode, however, came when, during Susie’s “roasting”, despite the fact that everyone was forbidden to say Midge’s name, someone brought up a video message from her on the screen, and Susie’s heart fluttered - she sincerely loved Midge with everyone with your being.
1 “Four minutes” (С5:9)
IMDb rating: 9.6/10
Well, we said goodbye to Midge Maisel and Susie Myerson for the last time, and honestly, it was absolutely everything we could hope for. We’ve seen Midge achieve the incredible success she’s had in some of the time jumps this final season, and we’ve had such an amazing sense of closeness with our favorite characters.
As the last episode drew to a close, we were able to experience the absolute joy of Midge and Susie’s beautiful friendship. They truly loved each other. And in these last moments they were so closely bound by friendship that they could see nothing but love. It only made sense in that it ended up with the two of them just laughing together.
