There is no greater guilt than turning on a reality show and allowing yourself to be immersed in it. Reality TV is one of those genres that can both delight and horrify a person, wondering why they even watch it. Some shows clearly have higher quality content and venues than others, but that doesn’t always matter to fans.

While some reality shows seem really terrible, the truth is that viewers can’t stop watching! There’s something about watching outrageous people in mind-blowing circumstances that’s just plain fun. 10 “Floribama Shore” (2017-2021)

The series is about a group of young people in a Florida beach town who have fun while postponing any real responsibilities. 9 “90 Day Fiancé” (2014-)

After these 90 days, couples must decide if they are ready to get married or if the relationship is not quite right.

The drama that develops between international couples can be amazing and wild, with scandal after scandal and many arguments to witness. Between numerous fraud scandals, infighting and more, many would bet Vanderpump Rules firmly in the “trash” reality TV category. Aside from the mess of relationships going on in the series, it has also spawned iconic GIFs and memes that fans can’t get enough of.

7 “Love is blind” (2020-)

The series features single people who start “dating” each other in groups where they can’t see what the other person looks like, and then get engaged based on their emotional ties alone. In the weeks that follow, couples are put to the test to see if their relationship can survive in the real world and make it to the altar.

Viewers find themselves enjoying the show’s drama and mess, while also supporting their favorite couples to go the distance. Reddit user GaramondBold sums up many fans’ feelings: “Part of me is really supporting these people to find true love. But a big part of me wants drama and to see everyone crash.” There is something irresistible in this.

6 “The Simple Life” (2003-2007)

Simple life was a defining series for reality television in the early 2000s. The series followed wealthy socialites. Paris Hilton And Nicole Richie and sent them to live on a modest family farm in Arkansas. There, on the farm, two girls were forced to step out of their comfort zone, give up their cell phones and take low-paying jobs.

The series was a common target for those who couldn’t care less about reality TV, and Hilton and Ritchie were criticized for their behaviour. However, the show also brought the two girls international stardom because fans couldn’t get enough of how awful it was. 5 ‘Fragrance of Love’ (2006-2008)

After the rapper Taste suffered a public breakup, VH1 decided it was the perfect opportunity for a reality dating show called Taste of love. In a similar style to shows like Bachelor, 20 single women move into a mansion to compete for the love and affection of Flavor Flav. The goal was to be the only happy woman he would choose in the end.

The series ran for three seasons and drew criticism for a premise that didn’t feel as successful considering Flavor Flav didn’t find love in the first season. 4 “Joe Millionaire” (2003, 2022)

While this series may have originally only lasted one season, there was a time in 2003 when reality show viewers could only talk about him. Joe Millionaire was another dating show, but with a twist: the women the handsome bachelor dated thought he was a millionaire, not the humble builder he really was.

Some thought the show was unfair to women and disliked the lie in the premise, but people couldn’t help but watch. Even though people put jersey shore firmly in the “trash” category of reality TV, many thought it was the best kind of trash they couldn’t get enough of. Love after imprisonment talks about couples who met and started a relationship while one of them was incarcerated. They meet in person for the first time when the perpetrators are finally freed, and then set to work on forging a relationship, which for people who have never truly spent time together may be easier said than done.

The series recently aired its fourth season and has spawned several spin-offs. Fans find themselves completely fascinated by these couples and the messy relationships they witness. This competitive dating show invites contestants to try and make meaningful connections without resorting to physical intimacy by competing for a $100,000 prize.

Some critics of the show feel that it is not a dating show but rather superficial. However, fans just can’t get enough of the show’s sleazy convoluted plots, delicious drama, and binge-prone nature. Redditor Consistent-Flow-2409 wrote: “I never watch this type of show but got hooked on it during lockdown. I didn’t believe in guilty pleasures until I found this show.”
