Even though marketing gave it away before the film’s release, viewers still got a “Wonderful” surprise when they watched it. Shazam! Fury of the gods on the first weekend when a very special guest star came to the rescue Zachary Levy and his team of superheroes.

Gal Gadot reprises her role as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince in the film, playing a pivotal role in its finale, in what could very well be her final appearance as the character. The appearance of the star was a pleasant surprise in another layer, after what happened during the original film.

When Wonder Woman 3 was officially canceled by Warner Bros. after takeover James Gunn And Peter Safran, it was believed that Gadot’s time as a character was over. First Shazam! There was a brief Superman cameo in the film, but it was more of a replacement than Henry Cavill who is less likely to appear as Clark Kent given everything that’s happened recently between DC, Warner Bros. and by themselves.

Given the somewhat disappointing nature of waiting for a big-name cameo, only to be teased, the director of the film David F. Sandberg talked to Collider Steve Weintraub explaining that Cavill was always supposed to be in the film, but he fell apart at the last moment. “I mean, the funniest thing is that in the first film we were supposed to have Henry. [Cavill] appear as Superman,” he said, adding:

“Then when we filmed that scene, they were like, ‘Well, Henry won’t survive that day, so we’ll shoot it with a stunt double and then we’ll have to do his lighting later. on.” It’s like, “Okay…” So we filmed it like this, and then the Henry story fell apart and we couldn’t do it. his face.”

For Fury of the godshowever, things went a little differently. With Wonder Woman scripted, Sandberg could be forgiven for suggesting he would fail again, despite the fact that the film’s plot, involving Greek gods and mythology, lends itself heavily to a Themyscira Warrior Princess cameo. Luckily for Sandberg, Gadot was able to film her cameo — albeit he was directing remotely — and it even allowed them to joke about Cavill’s non-cameo at the same time.

Like, “I don’t believe this is going to happen.” And then when we filmed that scene, or most of it, it was like, “Oh, you’re going to have to shoot with a stunt double, and then we’ll pick her up piecemeal because she’s not going to make it to Atlanta at that time.” It’s like, “Of course. Yeah.” That’s when I started thinking, “OK, so if we don’t get it, how are we going to solve this problem?” Because he’s so big… we should include him in the movie. So I thought, “Okay, then we need some other god, I guess. Can we have [Helen Mirren’s] does the character actually survive? It would be really bad if she showed up. But that was sort of my plan. But then it really happened and we were actually able to film with her, which made me very happy. Because, I mean, we’re making fun of the headless cameo in this movie, and we couldn’t do it if she didn’t actually show up at the end, I think, because people would just get pissed.

At this point, it remains to be seen if this will be Gadot’s swan song as Diana Prince. To see her, head to theaters now to check out Shazam! Fury of the gods. For more on the film, Sandberg explains why you should watch it. Shazam! Fury of the gods in IMAX.
